- This bibliometric study of a large publication set dealing with research on climate change aims at mapping the relevant literature from a bibliometric perspective and presents a multitude of quantitative data: The growth of the overall publication output as well as of some major subfields, the contributing journals and countries as well as their citation impact, and a title word analysis aiming to illustrate the time evolution and relative importance of specific research topics
- In order to differentiate our publication set with regard to the major subfields of climate change research we applied a different method: We parsed our paper set by combining with carefully selected further search terms which are based on the title word analysis from step 1 of our literature search procedure and on the major topics of climate change research as indicated by various summarizing publications
- The term model and related terms appear independently of time. This indicates the high relevance of climate modeling since the beginning of the time period analyzed here. - Our findings are in rough accordance with Grieneisen and Zhang, who reported that the number of publications on climate change and global warming has doubled with a rate of approximately every 4 years
